The free game wagon just keeps on a-rolling -- our PC-obsessed sister site Big Download recently directed our attention to three classic installments in the Command & Conquer franchise which are currently available to download for nary a penny: Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun (with the Firestorm expansion pack), and Red Alert.
Installing the games might exact a price upon your patience -- Dawn and Alert both require a fair amount of tinkering to work on your futuristic computing rig. Still, we'd rather pay for games with patience than hard-earned dollars any day of the week.
Just Cause 2 developer Eidos is a fairly new entrant. Having just, 10(ish) hours ago, joined up via Square Enix Europe community manager Keir Edmonds, the company account has already dropped one bombshell: a Just Cause 2 demo is "on its way." Though the account merely alludes to "details to follow," we'd be downright surprised if the demo hit any later than the game's March 23 release date.
Square Enix has released yet another Japanese language trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, likely the last one before it hits retail stores across the Pacific. This five minute video features a lot of recycled footage from earlier trailers, but attentive fans will notice the reveal of additional characters.
Just Cause 2 is a game that fits neatly in the open-world action vein. On its own, that's not much of a description when you stop to think about how prominent the genre has become since Grand Theft Auto III took the format and catapulted it into prominence earlier this decade. What sets Just Cause 2 apart from the competition, though, is the sheer sense of scale around you. The game takes place over 400 square miles of fictional Southeast Asian geography. Your eyes are constantly assailed by sprawling vistas, huge mountains towering above you, and a draw distance that's both impressive and utterly intimidating when you realize that you'll actually need to travel across this world.
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is an upcoming video game adaptation of James Cameron's film of the same name. The title is being developed by Ubisoft. It was announced by Ubisoft that it will be using the same technology as the film to be displayed in 3D. Now watch the official game trailer.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, due out May 28th, 2010. Based on Ubisoft's critically acclaimed action adventure, the film stars a ripped Jake Gyllenhaal, Alfred Molina and Oscar winner Ben Kingsley. Even better, Jerry Bruckheimer Films is involved, the same group responsible for Pirates of the Caribbean. Now watch the trailer.
Activision announced today that Modern Warfare 2 sold an estimated 4.7 million units in its first 24 hours in North America and the UK alone, which far exceeds the previous record of 3.6 million held by Grand Theft Auto IV.
Encore Software and developer Runic Games have announced plans to enchant its relationship by entering an exclusive publishing agreement that will send the addictive download-only PC title Torchlight to retail stores on January 5, 2010 for a MSRP of $19.99. Combining skills like so many elemental gems, Runic's design posse includes members from the original team that developed titles like Diablo and Diablo II (anyone ever heard of those?).
Torchlight -- which recently released free editing tools to its users -- is currently available for PC via its website for $19.99. A Mac version is planned for sometime in 2010. Sometime, meaning "not soon enough."
If there was ever any doubt in your mind that the enemies in upcoming third person shooter Lost Planet 2 are on the plus-size of things, the flood of assets coming out of the Tokyo Game Show should assure you of their huge-itude. Though we're only treated to a few scant glimpses in the trailer above, some of the beasts on display in the screens Capcom released are large-building-sized. The kind of big where you get that falling feeling in your stomach just from looking at them. Add to that the whole ongoing war thing and we're pretty glad to not be living on Capcom's now tropical planet.
If music from Relic’s war extravaganza Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II has rated high on your personal chart then this news is sure to please you.
